In this class we will focus on recent research paradigms within the field of American Cultural Studies to familiarize students with a number of possible theoretical approaches to come to terms with contemporary cultures being in a rapid process of change and transition. Departing from Stephen Greenblatt's notion of cultural mobility, we will analyze and discuss a selection of films, photography as well as literary texts. Key terms guiding our discussion will be "cosmopolitanism", "migration" and "cultural mobility".
