This course is an exploration of the English vocabulary, i.e. academic vocabulary as well as everyday vocabulary. We will be concerned with where the words of English come from, how new ones are created, what they mean and how they are used, who uses them, when, where and why. The goal is to expand your vocabulary and increase your awareness of the choices available to express yourself. Our work will also enhance your ability to understand, interpret and appreciate a variety of texts by taking words seriously, examining them closely, and becoming sensitive to their nuances.
