230515 Writing (S) (SoSe 2008)

Contents, comment

This course is intended to prepare you to do types of writing you will need in your English studies and in your personal and professional life as a university-educated speaker of English. The goals will be: to learn the formal characteristics of text types such as personal letters, business letters, job applications, and summaries; to improve the structure and organization of your written work; to develop your grasp of grammar and extend and refine your vocabulary so that you can express yourself clearly, correctly and convincingly.

There will be required weekly writing exercises that will be corrected and returned to you for discussion and revision. These will form the basis for the portfolio you will submit at the end of the semester for assessment of your progress. There will also be at least one in-class test of summary writing as preparation for the Proficiency Test to be taken in your 5th semester.

It is recommended that you take Grammar before taking this course, if possible.
