Die Vorlesung gibt einen Überblick zu den wichtigsten Präventionsansätzen des Kindes- und Jugendalters, wobei neben den Präventionsprinzipien die wichtigsten Präventionsgebiete dargestellt werden. Inhalte der Vorlesung beziehen sich unter anderem auf die Verhinderung von psychischen Störungen vs. Förderung von Gesundheit, spezifische vs. unspezifische, populations- vs. zielgruppenorientierte, personen- vs. umweltorientierte Maßnahmen, Gesundheits- und Krankheitsverhalten, Lebensstil und Gesundheit und Evaluation und Qualitätssicherung von Präventionsprogrammen zur Vorbeugung psychischer Auffälligkeiten bei Kindern oder Jugendlichen.
