Als "Sturm und Drang" bezeichnet man die Protest- und Jugendbewegung, die sich zwischen 1776 und 1785 gegen erstarrte Konventionen der höfischen Adelswelt, gegen die Enge bürgerlicher Moralvorstellungen und gegen das sogenannte Vernunftdogma der Aufklärung richtete.
In erster Linie war der "Sturm und Drang" zweifellos eine literarische Strömung, die sich von den Zwängen barocker und aufklärerischer Regelpoetiken zu befreien suchte. An deren Stelle traten 2Empfindsamkeit" und "Erlebnis", Geniekult und Regelüberschreitung als ästhetische Produktions- und Funktionselemente.
Die Veranstaltung führt in die Poetik des Sturm und Drang ein und gibt einen Überblick über die literarischen Formen: Behandelt werden programmatische Texte (Goethes "Rede zum Shakespeare-Tag"), Lyrik (Goethes "Prometheus" sowie die "Sesenheimer Lieder"), Roman (Die Leiden des jungen Werther) und das Drama (Schillers Die Räuber und Lenz, Der Hofmeister).
