300076 Organizing Organizations - Theory Class BGHS (BS) (SoSe 2017)

Contents, comment

Many theories assume that organizations are organized while their “environments” are not. Instead organizational environments are described as markets, institutions or networks. Although part of the environment consists of other organizations, these are not assumed to be organized. In this seminar we will investigate the possibility and fruitfulness of applying concepts of organization in order to understand phenomena outside and among formal organizations. We will discuss a number of empirical examples that may constitute examples of such organization, such as meta-organizations, standardization, certifications, ratings and rankings.
