This seminar covers topics and questions on academic proficiency. We will discuss the meaning and significance of academic integrity and literacy, the logics and logistics of research (foci) and how to present your own work in class and/or at conferences. We will talk about theoretical perspectives and how to create an academic profile, informing your work with and responding to them. We will discuss the writing process of module papers and an MA thesis, how to improve papers´ content
(argumentation, objectives, clearly identified problems, convincing close readings and use of quotations, etc) and form (structure, well-organized argumentation, correct documentation of sources, etc), and how to showcase papers´ contribution (presence/clarity of original ideas). There are open sessions for students´ individual questions and concerns. If interested, students will be given the opportunity to conceptualize their own PhD proposal or receive feedback on work in progress that they present in class. If students are interested, we will also dedicate a session on academic careers and the imports of literary and cultural studies for other disciplines and fields.
