This course will address the role of creativity for social action, artistic production, knowledge transfer, and alternative forms of knowledge production in the larger context of African American histories and cultures. We will discuss major black writers from the U.S., the Caribbean, and Canada in context. We will also look at black artistic creativity and production in music and the arts as social action, aesthetic creativity, and resistance.
