Die Veranstaltung macht mit den Grundlagen der Philosophie Epikurs und ihrer Rezeption in Rom vertraut. Dies geschieht durch die kursbegleitende Lektüre des Lehrgedichts De rerum natura des römischen Dichters Lukrez. Dabei spielen nicht nur die Inhalte eine wichtige Rolle, sondern auch die literarische Form und die Frage, inwiefern die Ästhetik der Darstellung Teil des 'therapeutischen' Anliegens epikureischer Philosophie ist. Schwerpunkte können nach Wunsch der Teilnehmer*innen gesetzt werden.
