In this block seminar we will explore, experience, reflect on, and create analog games for teaching and learning English in a school setting. In a first step, we will get to know some theoretical foundations of games, particularly in the context of important teaching approaches for ELT, such as Communicative Language Teaching, Cooperative Language Teaching, or Task-Based Language Teaching. Based on our theoretical knowledge, we will play and thus experience some games in class and reflect on their potential for language learning. This also includes accessibility as well as taking into account skills and abilities of different players. In a last step, you will apply your knowledge by developing some first game prototypes to use in and for teaching English in small groups.
Don’t worry if you consider yourself a less experienced player – games are for everybody and there is no need to be anxious. 😊

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
