Gegenstand der Vorlesung sind Grundlagen der Kriminologie, Erscheinungsformen von Kriminalität und abweichendem Verhalten und Fragen nach den Ursachen von Kriminalität. Behandelt werden die Theorien der Kriminalitätsentstehung in Geschichte und Gegenwart, der aktuelle Wissensstand zur Kriminalitätsforschung und soziale Reaktionen auf Kriminalität. Es geht weiter um Methoden der Erkenntnisgewinnung und die Wechselbeziehungen von Kriminologie und Strafrecht, Strafverfahrensrecht sowie anderen Bezugsdisziplinen.
