Contents, comment

The course takes place on four days:
Oct. 9 (12-18 p.m.), Oct 10 (10-16 p.m.), Dec. 5 (12-18 p.m.), Jan. 30 (12-18 p.m.)

Do you know enough of the flora and fauna where Santa Clause lives? What a yoik is? And what do different colours of aurora borealis (Northern lights) mean? How to talk to the fairies of Lapland/Sápmi?

This one semester course offers an insight to the indigenous culture and language of Sami who live in four countries in Northern Europe. Parallel to investigating topics related to Sami history, politics, literature, music, genetics, religion, students will acquire skills in speaking, reading, listening and writing North Sami.

For practicing your acquired skills in a practice oriented class, this course is ideal to book together with the translation course 230749 Englisch: Multilingualism -Translating fiction/poetry from an unfamiliar language -- (WiSe 2015/2016).

Highly motivated students with English level B1 and higher are mostly welcome!
