231129 The Decline of the American Dream (StGr) (WiSe 2025/2026)

In this study group, we will examine the decline of the American Dream from the late 20th century through the 21st century. The focus will be on historical, economic, and political aspects rather than representation in literature. We will analyze how these have manifested in American culture and in various forms of media. Our main goal is to discuss the key developments that have contributed to the decline of the American Dream in U.S. society and to explore the impact this decline continues to have on today’s political, social and cultural life. We will do this using and reading a variety of primary and secondary sources.
