220049 Die Entdeckung der Welt durch die Griechen (S) (WiSe 2015/2016)

Binnen 700 Jahren haben griechische Seefahrer, Händler und Reisende die Antike Welt vom Atlantik bis China erschlossen und damit die Kenntnis des eurasischen Kontinents und seiner Gewässer im Süden, Osten und Westen in einem Maße erweitertt, die in etwa der Zeit vor der Kolumbusfahrt entspricht. Das Seminar analysiert die wichtigsten Etappen dieses vormodernen Entdeckungszeitalters und sucht ihre politischen, wirtzscjhaftlichen und kulturenn Voraussetzungen und Folgen im Rahmen der antiken Geschichte zu erklären.
Sprachliche Voraussetzung der Teilnahme sind die Fähigkeit, englische Fachliteratur problemlos und schnell zu bewältigen, sowie zumindest rudimentäre Kenntnisse des Altgriechischen.
Begleitend zum Seminar und obligatorisch ist die Historische Orientierung.
