Im Rahmen dieser Veranstaltung geht es um die Analyse der Bedingungen der Entstehung, Erhaltung und des Wandels der klassischen Koordinations- und Steuerungssysteme der Wirtschaft, nämlich Hierarchie (Steuerung durch Macht), Markt (Steuerung über Preise), Netzwerke, u.a. Verhandlungssysteme (Steuerung über Vertrauen und Vereinbarungen) aus wirtschaftssoziologischer Perspektive.

Von den Teilnehmern der Veranstaltung wird erwartet, dass sie die jeweils zu den einzelnen Terminen vorgesehenen Texte, die als Textsammlung käuflich zu erwerben sind, lesen und sich an ihrer Diskussion beteiligen. Voraussetzung für den Erwerb eines Scheines ist ein schriftliches Referat zu einem der Themengebiete, dessen wichtigste Ergebnisse in mündlicher Form zur Strukturierung der Diskussion für die jeweiligen Termine vorzutragen sind.
