I would touch on the historical background of American law and its constitutional law underpinnings and then focus on a contemporary real criminal trial (a very simple one). The final note will be given calculated on a combination of a written examination following the lecture period plus participation in a moot court consisting of participation as a prosecutor, defense lawyer, witness or juror in 90 minute (occurring in one class period) trial based on the real criminal trial we will discuss. As classroom attendance over the last seven classes during the lecture period is essential to an understanding of the trial we will present, no final grade or credit will be given for the course unless those classes are attended. Additionally for credit and a note, the student must participate in the trial as a described above and pass the written examination.
The foreign language certificate only requires a written exam.
