„What is This Thing Called Science?“ - Diese Frage, die wohl eine der grundlegendsten der Wissenschaft überhaupt ist (und zugleich auch der Originaltitel des modernen Standardwerkes von Alan F. Chalmers (1999)), bildet den Ausgangspunkt dieses Seminars.
Im ersten Teil der Veranstaltung steht die Auseinandersetzung mit grundlegenden Fragen wie: „Was sind Erkenntnis- und Wissenschaftstheorie?“, „Wo liegen die Ursprünge?“ und „Warum sind sie überhaupt wichtig?“.
Im weiteren Verlauf steht die gemeinsame Vorstellung und Diskussion ausgewählter wissenschaftstheoretischer Positionen und den jeweils kompatiblen Forschungsmethoden. Hierbei finden sowohl Klassiker, als auch aktuelle Ansätze Berücksichtigung.
Auf diese Weise soll ein Einblick in die unterschiedlichen Auffassungen hinsichtlich des wissenschaftlichen Denkens und Forschens ermöglicht werden.
