Die Veranstaltung gibt eine Einführung in das Völkerrecht. Sie behandelt nach einem kurzen historischen Überblick zunächst die allgemeinen Fragen, also den Geltungsgrund des Völkerrechts und sein Verhältnis zum nationalen Recht, die völkerrechtlichen Rechtsquellen und die völkerrechtlichen Rechtssubjekte (Staaten, internationale Organisation etc.). Sodann wird es um die Grundzüge wichtiger völkerrechtlicher Teilgebiete gehen, wie insbesondere die Menschenrechte und das Völkerstrafrecht, das Recht der Staatverantwortlichkeit, die Gerichtsbarkeit, das Friedenssicherungsrecht und das Recht des bewaffneten Konflikts. Die sich in diesem Zusammenhang stellenden Fragen werden auch anhand von Fallbeispielen aus der Entscheidungspraxis erläutert. Wo sich entsprechende Anknüpfungspunkte ergeben, werden zudem die aktuellen Entwicklungen im Völkerrecht (z.B. neue Rolle des Individuums, Konstitutionalisierungs- und Fragmentierungsdebatte) kurz skizziert.
