Tristan und Isolde – die beiden Namen stehen für eines der großen Liebespaare der europäischen Literatur, für eine radikal-leidenschaftliche Liebe und zugleich für eine unglückliche Dreiecksgeschichte mit König Marke. Die gewiss bedeutendste und faszinierendste Gestaltung dieses Themas ist der mittelhochdeutsche Tristan-Roman des Gottfried von Straßburg (um 1210). Das Seminar unterzieht Gottfrieds Dichtung in gründlicher Lektüre einer exemplarischen literaturwissenschaftlichen Analyse, geht darüber hinaus komparatistisch der Geschichte dieses keltischen Erzählstoffs in der europäischen Literatur nach: von den Erwähnungen ‚Tristrams’ als exemplarischer Liebhaber im frühen Minnesang und den französischen Erzählfragmenten (Beroul, Thomas von England) über Eilharts von Oberg ‚Tristrant’, den deutschen Gottfried-Fortsetzungen und dem englischen ‚Sir Tristrem’ bis hin zu Richard Wagners berühmter Oper.

Alle Teilnehmenden sollten eine vollständige Ausgabe von Gottfrieds ‚Tristan’ (z.B. Reclam 4471-4473) zur Hand haben.
