230324 British History (S) (SoSe 2015)

Contents, comment

The aim of this lecture-style course is to provide students with an overview of British history from Stonehenge into the early 19th century. We will divide 4000 years into broad movements that are characterised by historically specific conflicts between its main political players – crown, nobility, church, merchants/industrialists, the people – and explore the political and ideological genesis of that strange animal, the parliamentary monarchy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
