Im Seminar soll, beginnend mit den soziologischen Klassikern, zunächst eine soziologische Perspektive auf den Kapitalismus und dessen gesellschaftliche Einbettung, entwickelt werden. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden im Lauf der Veranstaltung jüngere soziologische Entwicklungen sowie gesellschaftliche Bedingungen und Folgen des modernen Kapitalismus diskutiert.
Im Laufe des Seminars soll dabei versucht werden Fragen nachzugehen wie: Wie lässt sich Kapitalismus soziologisch verstehen? Wie ist der Zusammenhang von Kapitalismus und Gesellschaft? Gibt es den einen Kapitalismus, oder muss von unterschiedlichen Kapitalismen auszugegangen werden? Welche Entwicklungen hat der Kapitalismus durchgemacht?
