220122 Korruption vor und nach 1800: Diskurse und Praktiken (GK) (WiSe 2007/2008)

Politische und öffentliche Diskussionen über Korruption sind ein wichtiger Gradmesser für Kontrolle, Transparenz und Institutionalisierung von Amtshandlungen. Korruption kann deshalb ein zentraler Indikator für Prozesse der Staatsbildung und politischer Partizipation sein, und soll im Grundkurs anhand verschiedener Modellbildungen als solcher diskutiert werden. Zunächst soll jedoch geklärt werden, inwiefern für die Vormoderne überhaupt sinnvollerweise von "Korruption" gesprochen werden kann, da in dieser Periode politische Geschenke, Klientelismus und Patronage durchaus zu den konformen Praktiken gehörten. Ziel des Grundkurses ist es also, die Korruptionsdebatten vor und nach 1800 anhand von zeitgenössischen Quellen, Traktaten, politischen Prozessen, Gesetzestexten und -debatten zu vergleichen, um die Operationalisierbarkeit des Begriffs auszuloten. Gleichzeitig gibt das Thema Gelegenheit, die Forschungsdebatten zu Gaben und Geschenken, Vernetzung und Patronage, zur Geschichte des Geldes und zur Begriffsgeschichte der Korruption kennenzulernen und an ihnen die Grundkompetenzen historischen Arbeitens zu erlernen.
