This course explores topics in international trade. The first part focuses on the Ricardian and Heckscher-Ohlin models of comparative advantage, adjustment to trade shocks through the lens of the specific factors model, the Krugman model of intra-industry trade, and the Melitz model of firm heterogeneity. The final lectures study selected topics including foreign direct investment (FDI) and multinational firms, as well as trade policy. The course aims to strike a good balance between the discussion of theoretical models and relevant empirical studies.
The second part of the course will involve a student presentation on a recent research paper, as well as writing a report on it.
No single textbook covers the entire course, but a useful reference is:

Selected journal articles will be included in the syllabus.
