Das Seminar vermittelt ein grundlegendes Verständnis der Techniken und Methoden der Filmanalyse. Neben zentralen filmtheoretischen Ansätzen steht die formale Analyse im Mittelpunkt, bei der filmische Mittel wie Kameraarbeit, Schnitt, Licht, Farbe und Mise-en-Scène untersucht werden, um deren Einfluss auf die narrative Struktur zu verstehen. Darüber hinaus wird die filmische Erzählweise erarbeitet, einschließlich der Analyse von Plot, Charakterentwicklung und dramaturgischen Modellen. Das Seminar behandelt ferner die Untersuchung verschiedener Filmgenres und deren charakteristischer Merkmale. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Betrachtung des Films als kulturelles und gesellschaftliches Artefakt. Praktische Übungen in Form von Gruppenarbeiten und Einzelanalysen ermöglichen die Anwendung der erlernten Techniken, unterstützt durch Diskussionen und Präsentationen im Seminarrahmen.
