In this course we discuss in detail the syntax of Hindi/Urdu. Hindi/Urdu is an Indo-Aryan language within the Indo-European languages and it is spoken in (parts of) Pakistan and India. We will look at the syntax of this language concentrating on sentential syntax and the syntax of noun phrases but also considering adjectival phrases and, where relevant the morphological patterns of the language.
Students learn to analyse the structure of a language in detail in a variety of linguistic aspects and compare this language to other languages in the same and different language families/genera.
