The seminar will examine the relation between international trends and national/local aims and practices in recent developments in early childhood education and child welfare institutions. In the seminar the students will explore two or three topical examples (e.g. the discussion about and the consequences of PISA results, curriculum development and documentation in early education, and the emphasis on early detection/intervention in child welfare) in the context of international and German research. The seminar will familiarize the students with the notions of synchronization of social developments and with the theories about domestication and translation of international trends in local institutions.
The teaching methods will include introductory presentations by the teacher, group assignments, presentations by the students and discussions. The students are also expected to study 6-8 international journal articles related to the topics examined in the seminar.
