Descripción del curso:
¿Qué es el arte de interacción social? ¿Podría una acción específica interpretarse intermitentemente (o incluso simultáneamente) como arte y activismo? ¿Qué sucede cuando las potencias estéticas e intelectuales del arte participan en un movimiento dialéctico, de ida y vuelta, con la acción política estratégica del activismo? Este curso estudiará los límites difusos entre arte y activismo en las Américas. Hablaremos de artistas, activistas y movimientos sociales no canónicos desde los años sesenta hasta nuestros días. Aunque México y sus fronteras geopolíticas serán el principal foco geográfico, nuestro enfoque será transnacional y (siguiendo a Diana Taylor) hemisférico. Desde diversas formas de performance, artes visuales, hasta literatura y activismo, estudiaremos obras o acciones realizadas en Cuba, Brasil, Argentina, México o incluso San Diego, Chicago, Houston y Nueva York.
