220072 Mittelalterliche Altarretabel in Westfalen (S) (WiSe 2014/2015)

Altarretabel gehören zu den aufwendigsten und wichtigsten Ausstattungsstücken in mittelalterlicher Kirchen. Es handelt sich um komplexe Bildträger, die in liturgische Abläufe eingebunden waren, religiöse Funktionen erfüllten und zugleich nicht selten als Statussymbole fungierten. Das Seminar bietet eine Einführung in den besonders reichen Bestand an mittelalterlichen Altarretabeln in Westfalen von den Anfängen bis in die Zeit des Spätmittelalters, in der sich reiche Städte Exportartikel wie das in Antwerpen hergestellte „Goldene Wunder“ in Dortmund leisten konnten. Methodisch verbindet das Seminar funktions- und bildgeschichtliche Fragestellungen mit einer Einführung in die christliche Ikonographie und Stilgeschichte des Mittelalters.
