Seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre boomt die Berichterstattung über Wissenschaft, Technik und Forschung in nahezu allen Medien. Ungefähr zeitgleich starteten auch eine Reihe von Initiativen und sog. Events zur Wissenschaftspopularisierung. So gibt es beispielsweise Wissenschaftsjahre und -städte, Science Centers, Kommunikatorenpreise und TV-Shows. Im Rahmen des Seminars wollen wir uns zunächst einen Überblick über die Initiativen und Veranstaltungen verschaffen um im Hauptteil uns dann der Auswertung und Evaluation einzelner Events zu zuwenden. Die leitende Fragestellung wird in dieser Phase sein, ob eine Entwicklung vom Wissenschaftsjournalismus hin zu einer Wissenschafts-PR existiert und mit welchen Implikationen eine solche Entwicklung verbunden ist.
Die Evaluationen sollen nach Möglichkeit in Form kleinerer Projekte von den teilnehmenden Studierenden selbst durch geführt werden.
