Seminar for the Lecture Module: Interdisciplinary Cell Visualization and Modeling for Naturwissenschaftliche Informatik, Bioinformatik und Genomforschung, Molekulare Biotechnologie, Medienwissenschaften, Medieninformatik and Gestaltung

Zur Modulbeschreibung ...

(This seminar can also be accomplished independently from the lecture module.)

In contrast to the usual Multidimensional Cell Visualization Seminar - part of the lecture module InterZellVis - this seminar covers the following topics:

  • Modeling and Visualization of Biological Networks
  • Genome-wide Data Analysis
  • International exchange-related topics

Abstract

With the support of high-throughput technologies and advanced tools, many achievements in the area of large-scale biological network models have been published in recent years. Naturally, genome-wide models have become indispensable for studying the systems biology of organisms.

In this seminar, we will focus on the latest development in genome-wide scale modeling of biological networks. The lecture and discussion topics range from different types of high-throughput data, including non-coding RNA transcriptomic data, to construction, analysis and application of genome-scale biological network models.

This block seminar is a unique possibility to gain new insights into this research area and it will take place during the time period from 26.05 to 06.06.2014. This seminar will be taught in English.

The Lecturer

This block seminar will be held by Prof. Dr. Ming Chen who leads the Department of Bioinformatics at the Zhejiang University of Hangzhou (P.R. China) since 2006. He completed his PhD studies in 2004 in the group of Prof. Dr. Ralf Hofestädt, Bielefeld University. His publications cover a wide range of Bioinformatics research, ranging from plant systems biology, biological data integration and visualization, biomedical informatics to synthetic biology.
