230098 Nibelungen-Lektüren (S) (WiSe 2014/2015)

Auf die Frage nach den bekanntesten Erzählwerken der mittelalterlichen Literatur werden noch immer viele Menschen in Deutschland an erster Stelle das ‚Nibelungenlied‘ nennen. Diese anhaltende Prominenz steht in merkwürdigem Kontrast zu der Beobachtung, dass selbst unter Germanisten die Zahl derer gering ist, die es vollständig gelesen haben. Die politische Funktionalisierung als ‚Nationalepos‘ der Deutschen im 19. Jahrhundert und der Missbrauch in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus trugen wohl mit dazu bei, das für den Deutschunterricht vieler Generationen einst wichtigste mittelhochdeutsche Werk als ein Stück angeblich ‘reaktionärer’ Literatur aus Studium und Schule weitgehend zu verdrängen. An die Stelle eines solchen Tilgens aus dem kulturellen Gedächtnis soll die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit dem ‚Nibelungenlied‘ treten, zu der die intensive Textlektüre ausgewählter Passagen anregen will.

Alle Teilnehmenden sollten eine vollständige Ausgabe des ‚Nibelungenlieds‘ zur Hand haben.
