Ovids Philemon und Baucis, Shakespeares King Lear, Fontanes Stechlin, Brechts unwürdige Greisin, Thomas Manns Betrogene, Martin Walsers liebender Mann, Alice Munros Aubrey, Fiona und Grant (aus The Bear Came Over the Mountain)… Die Reihe ließe sich beliebig verlängern. Sie verdeutlicht: Alte Menschen sind in der Literatur nicht nur präsent, ihnen wird von ihren Autorinnen und Autoren immer wieder auch eine prominente Position zugewiesen.
Eng verknüpft mit den Debatten um die demographische Entwicklung unserer Gesellschaft wird literarischen Neuerscheinungen zum Thema ,Alter‘ im gegenwärtigen Literaturbetrieb verstärkt Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt. Im Seminar wollen wir uns mit einigen Texten und Filmen auseinandersetzen, die unterschiedliche Aspekte des Altwerdens und Altseins ins Zentrum stellen. Zu fragen ist dabei stets, welche Themen und Motive literarischer Altersdarstellung aufgegriffen, modifiziert oder neu eingeführt werden und wie diese in jeweils gattungsspezifischer Weise präsentiert werden.
