270021 Beyond self-report: Innovative assessment of maltreatment and well-being (BS) (WiSe 2024/2025)

Maltreatment and violence are mainly assessed retrospectively using questionnaires and structured interviews. This makes it possible to analyse prevalences and correlations with various outcomes. However, the results are not free of biases and it remains unclear how violence is experienced. Younger children cannot report exposure to violence themselves, are reports by others (e.g., parents, teachers) an alternative? Can picture-based tools help younger children to report experiences of violence? What other methods are there for assessing experiences of violence and maltreatment? In this block seminar, we want to look at different recording methods, try them out and develop them further. The seminar is practical and hands-on with the aim of critically analysing assessment methods and developing creative methods for recording violence and maltreatment.
