392015 Structural matching in RNA Data (S) (WiSe 2013/2014)

Contents, comment

The increasing awareness of the manifold roles of RNA in gene expression has led to numerous projects in RNA sequencing. RNA structure is often more conserved than sequence, and its recognition is crucial to decipher the function of an RNA transcript. As RNA tertiary structure can well be approximated by secondary structure, it is this algorithmically convenient level where many algorithms for structure matching have been developed.

This seminar will study algorithms for structural motif search, structure comparison, and structural matching in databases, using exact search as well as approximate matching.
