In diesem Seminar beschäftigen wir uns mit der Frage, wie Grammatik entsteht. Anhand ausgewählter Phänomene aus dem nominalen, dem verbalen und dem satzübergreifenden Bereich des Deutschen machen wir uns mit Theorien und Konzepten der Grammatikalisierungsforschung vertraut. Wir thematisieren dabei unter anderem, wie der Definitartikel entstanden ist, wie sich Periphrasen des Typs 'ich krieg die Zähne gezogen' herausgebildet haben und wie die Entwicklung kausaler Konnektoren wie 'weil' abgelaufen ist. Dabei soll auch thematisiert werden, wie grammatischer Wandel empirisch erforscht werden kann.
