Die Lehrveranstaltung verfolgt zwei Grobziele. Zum einen sollen Sie auf die unterrichtlichen Anforderungen, die im Sachunterricht auf Sie zukommen, vorbereitet werden. Im Seminar sollen Ihre Kenntnisse bezogen auf Unterrichtsplanung aufgefrischt und ergänzt werden, sodass Sie in der Lage sind, selbstständig eine Unterrichtsreihe zu planen, die sich im Sachunterricht durchführen lässt. Die Unterrichtsplanung soll den Lehrplan berücksichtigen und inhaltlich und methodisch auf die gesetzten Lernziele abgestimmt sein.
Zum anderen stehen Sie im Praxissemester vor der Herausforderung, ein Studienprojekt durchzuführen und auf wissenschaftlichem Niveau zu verschriftlichen. Im Vorbereitungsseminar sollen die forschungsmethodischen Grundlagen, die Sie dafür benötigen, aufgefrischt und ergänzt werden. Des Weiteren sollen Sie ein beispielhaftes Forschungsprojekt ausarbeiten, das prinzipiell in der Schule durchgeführt werden könnte. Das Projekt soll eine praxisrelevante, theoretisch hergeleitete Forschungsfrage stellen und diese mit wissenschaftlichen Methoden beantworten. Die Auswahl Ihrer theoretischen Fundierung und wissenschaftlichen Anlage Ihrer Studie sollen Sie begründen können.
