Das Seminar behandelt drei wichtige Romane des 18. Jahrhunderts: Ch. F. Gellerts Das Leben der schwedischen Gräfin von G. (1747/48), Ch. M. Wielands Die Geschichte des Agathon (1767/68) und K. Ph. Moritz' Anton Reiser (1785-90) (alle drei z.B. in Reclams Universalbibliothek). In genauer Lektüre werden verschiedene Typen des modernen aufklärerischen Romans untersucht: Erziehungsroman, sentimentaler Roman, Bildungsroman, psychologischer Roman. Ein besonderer thematischer Schwerpunkt liegt auf den in den Romanen zum Vorschein kommenden unterschiedlichen Subjektbegriffen und auf der Herausbildung moderner Individualität (auch im Lichte aktueller subjekt- und identitätstheoretischer Modelle). Voraussetzung der Teilnahme ist die Lektüre der drei Romane vor Semesterbeginn.
