Das Seminar nimmt frühe (literarische) Texte in den Blick, in denen dem Automobil eine zentrale Rolle zukommt. Ausgehend vom Reisebericht "Eine empfindsame Reise im Automobil" (1903) von Otto Julius Bierbaum soll der Bogen großzügig, soll heißen über die 1920er Jahre (bspw. zu Erich Maria Remarques "Das Rennen Vanderveldes") bis in die 1940er Jahre (bspw. Annemarie Schwarzenberg "Alle Wege sind offen"), gespannt werden. Im Zentrum des Diskussions-Intresses steht die Frage nach den Narrativen rund um die motorisierte Gesellschaft: welche Visionen, welche Chancen, aber auch welche Gefahren werden literarisch ausgewiesen (immerhin gibt es schon früh groteske Erzählungen, in denen das Auto dämonisch verlacht wird). Neben dem spezifischen Blick auf das Auto stehen allgemeine Fragen der Literarisierung im Fokus: mit welchen Schreibstrategien genau wird eigentlich ein konkretes Thema/Produkt literarisch inszeniert, fokussiert usw.
Geplant ist eine halbtägige Exkursion ins Automobilmuseum Melle.
