Fragen zum Zusammenhang zwischen Aufmerksamkeit und Bewusstsein gehören zum Kerngegenstand der Experimentellen Psychologie und Kognitiven Neurowissenschaft wie auch der Philosophie (z.B. philosophy of mind). In dem Seminar wird der Schwerpunkt auf dem Forschungsfeld des Sehens ("seeing") liegen, das sich durch zahlreiiche empirisch gut untersuchte Phänomene (z.B. zu visual masking) und zugehörige Theorien und Modelle (z.B. global workspace) wie auch tiefgehende philosophische Analysen (z.B. zum Qualia Problem) auszeichnet.
Zentrales Lernziel ist es, sich den aktuellen Stand des Wissens zum Zusammenhang von Aufmerksamkeit und Bewusstsein beim Sehen anhand einer Basislektüre (vermutlich ein Buch, wird noch bekannt gegeben) sowie ausgewählter englischsprachiger Journal-Artikel zu erarbeiten.

Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierende des Msc Studiums Psychologie, d.h. MSc Psychologie (alt), MSc Psychologie mit Schwerpunkt Experimentelle Psychologie und Neurowissenschaft sowie an Studierende des MSc Klinische Psychologie und Psychotherapie.
Das Seminar setzt Kenntnisse in Kognitiver Neurowissenschaft (z.B. Allgemeine Psychologie, Biologische Psychologie, Experimentalmethodik) voraus, wie sie in einem BSc Studium der Psychologie vermittelt werden.
