Steven Johnson hat in seinem Buch „Everything bad is good for you“ (2005) nachgewiesen, dass selbst der größte TV-Trash in den letzten Jahrzehnten an struktureller Komplexität gewonnen hat. Dass Fernsehserien inzwischen nicht nur formal, sondern auch inhaltlich zu den interessantesten narrativen Strukturen zählen, die sich in der modernen Medienlandschaft finden lassen, zeigen Beispiele wie „Twin Peaks“, „The Simpsons“, „Lost“, „Heroes“, „Gilmore Girls“, „Mad Men“, „24“ und viele mehr. Im Seminar soll der Frage nachgegangen werden, welches (didaktische) Potenzial Fernsehserien in Bezug auf ihre Konzeptionen und Erzählstrukturen besitzen. Zu diesem Zweck werden einzelne Folgen unter literaturtheoretischen, (medien)philosophischen und deutschdidaktischen Aspekten analysiert.
