Ungleichheiten sind wieder stärker in der Fokus der Gesellschaftspolitik gerückt und zum Thema öffentlicher Debatten geworden. Der wahrgenommene Anstieg insbesondere materialer Ungleichheiten hat Zünstoff in die Frage gebracht, welche Ungleichheiten als Skandal zu empfinden sind und inwiefern sie Maßnahmen zur Herstellung von mehr Gleichheit erfordern. Diese Fragen werden allerdings durchaus kontrovers diskutiert. Viel hängt dabei davon ab, welche Ursachen für existierende Ungleichheiten angenommen werden. In diesem Seminar sollen verschiedenen Mechanismen der Ungleichheitsgenese und der Herstellung von Gleichheit vorgestellt, theoretisch diskutiert und im Hinblick auf die Möglichkeit ihrer empirischen Überprüfung verglichen werden.
