Der Kurs beginnt mit der Besprechung eines der bekanntesten Gedichte deutscher Sprache. Anhand des konkreten Beispiels soll aufgezeigt werden, was LiteraturwissenschaftlerInnen an einem Text gemeinhin interessiert, welche Fragen sie sich stellen, welchen Spuren sie nachgehen, welche (Be-)Deutungsebenen sich erschließen lassen. Erst nach dieser kleinen Demonstration dessen, was Studierende dieses Faches in etwa erwartet, werden grundlegende Begriffe und Modelle thematisiert werden. Nach einigen (semiotischen) Grundlagen rücken dabei vor allem die drei großen Gattungen in den Fokus: Lyrik, Dramatik, Epik. Die seminarbegleitende Lektüre kurzer, vergleichsweise einfacher Fachtexte wird in den Sitzungen durch zahlreiche Beispiele, kleine Übungen und gelegentliche Anwendungsaufgaben ergänzt. Kommunikative Basis des Seminars ist das Gespräch, in das sich einzubringen jede/r Teilnehmende freundlich angehalten ist.
Darüber hinaus bietet das zugehörige Tutorium die Gelegenheit, Kenntnisse zu vertiefen und weitere Anregungen zu erhalten.
Die Inhalte der insgesamt drei Einführungskurse sind weitgehend identisch, das Tutorium findet einmal für alle Kurse statt.
