Gothic Fiction has a long tradtion, from Europe to the US. This class tries to sharpen the term "American Gothic". After a short theoretical introduction the term "American Gothic" is going to be put to the test on the basis of relevant fictional texts from the 19th and the 20th century. These include short stories by Washington Irving, Nathaniel Hawthorne, E.A. Poe and H.P Lovecraft as well as others. Furthermore, novels, graphic novels, TV series and movies will be examined.
