The U.S. American South is a region that claims and deserves special attention. Replete with a distinct history, rich local cultures, myths, nostalgia and storytelling, Dixie is fertile ground also for literary studies.
In this class we will survey literatures of the American South from classic to new and pay close attention to historical, social and cultural backgrounds of the texts. Vivian Gramley's class "Language Variety in the American South" will investigate the region from a liguistic perspective and we will collaborate on some topics.
