230840 Englisch: English for Natural Scientists, level B1+ and higher (S) (WiSe 2013/2014)

Contents, comment

This course is addressed to students of Science at the higher language levels. We will explore topics of interest specific to the relationships between science, technology and society. We specifically want to understand how science and technology affect social, political, and economic trends in society and vice-versus. We will do this through a variety of formats including video and media analysis, assigned readings and regular large group, small group and pair discussions.

Through these exchanges, students will receive feedback on their language production and reception. Lexical input and communication strategies for dealing with scientific and science-related topics will be offered with the goal of aiding students in the confidence and competence when dealing with topically specific language.
