230836 Englisch: Talking Terminology: Practicing Sociological Terminology in Context, level B1+ and higher (S) (WiSe 2013/2014)

Contents, comment

This course will emphasise the speaking of sociological English, while reading and writing of academic English will also be practiced. Texts will include original sociological texts such as case studies and research articles. The expansion of the student’s social science vocabulary will be a main goal of the course. Roll play and simulations will be introduced to achieve this goal. These will include participation in an in-class “public policy forum” as well as individualized training in speaking at professional colloquia and scientific meetings.

The course will be conducted on a Pass/Fail basis and three credit points will be awarded as a result of passing the course. Regular attendance is necessary for passing this course since the student’s participation in in-class discussion counts as one third of the work towards passing the course.
