Es wird erwartet, dass die Hörer einige algebraische und/oder zahlentheoretische Vorkenntnisse besitzen, vor allem sollen sie mit der algebraischen Denkweise vertraut sein. Die erfolgreiche Teilnahme an einer Vorlesung "Algebra I" oder an meiner Vorlesung "Elementare Zahlentheorie" ist sicher ausreichend (entsprechende Grundkenntnisse können natürlich auch durch Selbststudium erworben werden), die Grundvorlesungen Lineare Algebra I und II reichen aber nicht. Ideal wären die Kenntnisse aus beiden Veranstaltungen.

In mancher Hinsicht schließt die Vorlesung "Algebraische Zahlentheorie" an meine "Elementare Zahlentheorie" im WS 2006)07 an, weniger im Hinblick auf einzelne Ergebnisse, sondern bezogen auf die Vertrautheit mit Fragestellungen, Methoden usw. An Vorkenntnissen wird einiges gebraucht, was man in einer Vorlesung "Algebra I" lernt - ich werde dies zwar kurz wiederholen, setze aber voraus, dass die entsprechenden Konstruktionen (zum Beispiel Körpererweiterung) bekannt sind.
