The goal of this course is to ensure that students are able to express themselves clearly, coherently, correctly and in an appropriate style in written English in a wide variety of different text types (such as summaries, essays, job applications, blogs, reports, instructions, narrative and promotional texts). In the seminar, students will be given the opportunity to extend and consolidate their writing skills through regular and intensive writing tasks. They will be able to develop their control of grammatical structures and the scope and appropriateness of their lexical resources in a range of communicative contexts, and to reflect together and individually on the writing process.
Participants should have passed the departmental Entrance Test or one of the recognized equivalents. Students in their first semester or those who have not yet done the "Writing" seminar have preference. Anyone who has already taken "Writing" but wants to improve their written English further will not be able to take part in the seminar as such, but should talk to me about alternatives.
Will be presented in class and online. Please pay special attention to the latest version of “Auntie Alligator’s List of Don’ts” on my teaching homepage and the StudIP section for this course.
