Natürliche Sprachen sind dynamische Systeme, deren Struktur durch Sprachgebrauch und Spracherwerb ständig neu etabliert werden. Es ist seit der Zeit von Darwin und Schleicher immer wieder konstatiert worden, daß es eine auffällige Parallele gibt zwischen der Dynamik des Sprachwandels und der evolutionären Dynamik von Populationen in der Biologie. Dank der modernen Computertechnologie ist es möglich geworden, diese - wenn man so will - evolutionäre Dynamik natürlicher Sprache durch Simulationen experimentell zu studieren. Die Veranstaltung gibt einen Überblick über die linguistischen, computationellen und konzeptuellen Fragen, die dieser Ansatz aufwirft. Im Anschluß daran werden aktuelle Forschungsarbeiten aus diesem Gebiet diskutiert.
