Das Seminar bietet einen Überblick über ausgewählte Probleme der Stadtentwicklung. Nach einem fachwissenschaftlichen Teil werden didaktische Fragen zur Legitimation und zur Umsetzung der Themen in den Unterricht verschiedener Schulstufen thematisiert und analysiert. Dabei werden verschiedene unterrichtsrelevante Methoden erprobt und eingeübt. Folgender Ablauf ist vorgesehen:
1. Die Stadt im Mittelalter
2. Die Industriestadt
3. Reformbewegungen im Städtebau (z.B. "Gartenstadt")
4. Die orientalische Stadt
5. Soziale Segregation
6. Ökologischer Stadtumbau
7. Zur Legitimation der Thematik "Stadt" für den Unterricht
8. Konzeption einer Erkundung ("Spurensuche") zum Thema "Bielefeld im Mittelalter"
9./10. Analyse von Lehrbüchern zu den Themen "Der Aufbau einer Stadt" und "Die Stadt in fremden Kulturen"
11. Produktion eines Films/einer Fotostrecke zum Thema "Bielefeld im Industriezeitalter"
12. "So war es früher in der Stadt" - Befragung von Zeitzeugen (Oral history)
13. Die Mysterie-Methode zum Thema "Soll der Untersee aufgestaut und zum Freizeitzentrum aufgebaut werden?"
